It’s Do or Die for Cowboys Tony Romo in 2012
As arguably one of the most watched and criticized NFL franchises, the Dallas Cowboys always have tremendous pressure on the team and the front office to win on an annual basis. Over the past couple of years, the Cowboys have been favored to go far in the NFL playoffs and potentially win the Super Bowl. With that being said, the expectations of the team have not been met since the days of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin as the league’s best three-headed monster.
Coming into the 2012 NFL season, the one player in Dallas that everyone will be watching and expecting big things from will be superstar quarterback Tony Romo. There has been no doubting Romo’s talent, heart and ability on the football field year in and year out, but the results at the end of the season and in the playoffs just haven’t been there for the Dallas gunslinger.
There is no question that heading into the upcoming NFL regular season that the most pressure will be directed towards Romo. As New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning discovered a few years ago, along with his brother Peyton, the legacy of a quarterback is determined by championships and currently Romo has none.
There is a very good chance that this season may very well be the last for Tony Romo as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys if he can’t lead the team deep into the playoffs or win the elusive Super Bowl ring. That being said, this season will be about as pressure-filled as it gets for the talented quarterback in the Lone Star state.
Cowboys’ Jason Witten Believes Tony Romo is an Elite QB
Over the past half-decade or so, the Dallas Cowboys has been a team on the rise in the NFL once again with owner Jerry Jones building a billion dollar stadium and acquiring star players at all positions on both sides of the football. Even though there is no shortage of stars in Dallas, the one player that gets more praise and blame for the Cowboys accomplishments and struggles is quarterback Tony Romo.
Ever since taking over for Drew Bledsoe, Romo has been thrust into the spotlight in Dallas and for good reason. Romo is without doubt one of the most talented quarterbacks in the game with a unique Brett Favre-like ability to take the big gamble and pull off big plays with the game on the line. Unfortunately, along with Favre’s biggest upside, comes his biggest downside. Along with the ability to dominate an opposing defense with his decision making ability and big arm, Romo also takes a lot of chances that end up as game-changing interceptions.
With that being said, Romo has been considered one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, but with major flaws that might prevent him from leading the Cowboys to a Super Bowl. This upcoming season may very well be do or die for Romo as he will have tremendous pressure to take this team far in the playoffs, but his Pro Bowl tight end and close friend Jason Witten believes he has what it takes and is an elite quarterback in the NFL.
